Accessibility statement

Our aim

We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA. This statement is honest about where we are against that, rather than claiming a conformance we have not audited.

The reference pages on this site — the jurisdiction overviews and these policy pages — are plain, semantic documents with no scripting required to read them. They are the part of the site most likely to be needed by someone using assistive technology, and they are built accordingly.

What is in place

• Semantic HTML: real headings in order, real lists, real landmarks, and a skip link to the main content.
• Every interactive control on the lane planner is reachable and operable by keyboard, including the origin and destination comboboxes, which implement the ARIA combobox pattern with arrow-key navigation.
• The map’s selection state is mirrored in text: everything it shows is also stated in the readout panel and in the form, so nothing depends on seeing colour or shape.
• The jurisdiction index has a text filter, so 250 entries do not have to be scrolled.
• Local-language content carries correct lang attributes, and right-to-left scripts are marked dir="rtl", so screen readers pronounce them properly.
• Text contrast on the dark surfaces meets AA for body copy.
• The site respects prefers-reduced-motion: the scroll-driven animation, the travelling route dash and the map pulses all stop.
• Content reflows to 320 px without horizontal scrolling.

Known limitations

We would rather list these than let you discover them:

• The home page is heavily scroll-driven, including a video the scroll position scrubs. With reduced motion enabled it settles, but it remains a demanding page. Everything it communicates is also available as text on the pages linked from it.
• The hero film has no captions or audio description. It carries no spoken content and no information that is not repeated in text, but it is not captioned.
• The world map is an image for the purpose of assistive technology. It has a text alternative and every jurisdiction on it is selectable from the search field instead, but the map itself is not explorable shape by shape.
• We have not commissioned an independent accessibility audit. This statement is based on our own testing.
